In this report, based on CALPADS reporting from that year, you will be able to see two different views:

  1. Transitional Kindergarten Participation by Ethnicity
  2. Transitional Kindergarten Participation with County, District or School data

Transitional Kindergarten Participation by Ethnicity

In this report, you will be able to view:

  • Total Kindergarten Enrollment (Census Day)
    • Definition by CDE*
      • The official number of students enrolled in kindergarten on Census Day, the first Wednesday in October, as reported through the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS). This number includes all students enrolled in kindergarten who were participating in the Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program on Census Day.
  • Kindergarten TK Program Participation (Census Day)
    • Definition by CDE*
      • The total number of students enrolled in kindergarten who were participating in the TK program on Census Day. TK is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate. Pursuant to law, EC 48000(c), a child is eligible for TK if:
        • In the 2012–13 school year, a child has his or her fifth birthday between November 2 and December 2
        • In the 2013–14 school year, a child has his or her fifth birthday between October 2 and December 2
        • In the 2014–15 school year and each school year thereafter, a child has his or her fifth birthday between September 2 and December 2

There is no separate grade-level for TK. Rather, eligible students are enrolled in Kindergarten and local educational agencies (LEAs) are required to submit TK program participation data to CALPADS at the end of the academic year. Program start and end dates are used to determine which kindergarten students enrolled on Census Day are participating in the TK program.

  • Kindergarten TK Program Participation (Cumulative)
    • Definition by CDE*
      • The total number of students enrolled in kindergarten who participated in the TK program at any point during the academic year.
