[CA] CALPADS FLASH #287: 2024−25 School Year Rollover
The CALPADS (California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System) Update Flash #287 provides essential updates regarding the 2024-25 school year rollover and important code and validation rule changes. Below are the key takeaways from the document:
1. School Year Rollover (2024−25)
The school year rollover will be effective as of September 17, 2024. This includes:
- New codes: Introduced to reflect the needs of the new school year.
- Retired codes: Outdated codes have been removed from the system.
- New Input Validation Rule (IVR): This will be implemented to enhance data integrity, including an update to an existing IVR to reflect a code change.
2. Changes to Certification Validation Rules (CVRs)
Following the rollover, additional changes will be made, primarily focused on transitioning certain Certification Validation Rules (CVRs) to Data Discrepancies (DDs).
- These changes will be visible through the Data Discrepancy interface before the Fall submissions for Fall 1 and Fall 2 open.
3. Introduction of New Language Codes
The update introduces a new language code and an update to an existing one:
- American Sign Language (ase): A new language code added to the system.
- Students whose primary language is American Sign Language will be categorized under “English Only (EO)” status.
- Other Sign Languages (sgn): Updated to exclude American Sign Language.
- Students who use sign languages other than American Sign Language will continue to use this code.
4. Retired Work-Based Learning Type Code
- The Non-Registered Pre-Apprenticeship Program (code 30) has been retired and is no longer valid as of June 30, 2024.
- If included in any Work-Based Learning file submissions, the files will be rejected.
5. Course Section File Field No Longer Used
- Field 9.27 (CTE Course Section Provider Code): No longer in use.
- Any data entered into this field will cause the file to fail during input.
6. New Fatal IVR for STAS File
- A new Input Validation Rule (IVR) for STAS File will be enforced beginning September 17, 2024:
- Error STAS0651: STAS data should not be submitted for Non-Public Schools (NPS) or Private School Groups (PSG).
- This IVR was initially introduced in 2023-24 but was disabled to provide more time for schools to adjust. It will now be re-enabled.
These changes are important for local educational agencies to keep in mind as they prepare for the upcoming school year, ensuring data submissions align with updated rules and codes.
