The California Department of Education (CDE) has issued CALPADS Update Flash #304 to remind Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) of two crucial actions to complete before July 1, 2025. These steps ensure data integrity as CALPADS transitions from the 2024–25 to the 2025–26 academic year.
The 5.9 Report lists currently enrolled students who were foster youth at any time during the academic year but are no longer classified as such.
Important Reminders:
The report does not carry over between academic years.
On July 1, 2025, CALPADS will refresh the report to reflect only students for the new 2025–26 school year.
If LEAs want to retain historical 2024–25 foster youth data, they must export the 5.9 Report as a CSV file or save a copy before June 30, 2025.
Direct Certification helps schools automatically identify students eligible for free meal programs.
What LEAs Should Do:
Download 2024–25 DC results from CALPADS before June 30, 2025, if tracking is required.
Be aware: once students are exited in CALPADS, they’re not included in DC matching unless:
Exit reason is E155 – Year End Enrollment Exit, or
Exit reason is E156 – Grade 12 Continuing
These codes retain students in DC matching as they’re expected to return.
Other exit codes will exclude students from matching until new enrollment data is submitted for 2025–26.
Action Required | Deadline | Why It Matters |
---|---|---|
Download 5.9 Report | June 30, 2025 | Preserves 2024–25 former foster youth list |
Export DC Data | June 30, 2025 | Ensures access to prior year’s certified student data |
Save a copy of the Former Foster Youth (5.9) report
Download Direct Certification results for 2024–25
Do it before June 30, 2025
These simple steps ensure continuity and accuracy during the CALPADS academic year transition.
