[CA] CCGI Requirements for LEAs

The California College Guidance Initiative, or CCGI, gives students tools to explore careers, plan for college, and complete financial-aid and college applications.

For LEAs serving grades 9–12, CCGI also creates an important data responsibility. Districts must provide accurate transcript information so students can use transcript-informed Partner Accounts on CaliforniaColleges.edu.

What Is CCGI?

CCGI operates CaliforniaColleges.edu, the state’s college and career planning platform for students in grades 6–12.

Students can use the platform to:

  • Explore careers, majors, and colleges
  • Build a digital portfolio
  • Track college and financial-aid planning tasks
  • Launch FAFSA and California Dream Act applications
  • Access California public college application tools

Basic Accounts give students access to planning tools. However, they do not include transcript data.

Why Transcript-Informed Accounts Matter

Transcript-informed Partner Accounts use district-provided data to show students the courses they are taking and the courses they have completed.

As a result, students in grades 9–12 can track their progress toward CSU and UC admission requirements. They can also review whether their courses meet A–G requirements.

In addition, eligible students can import district-verified courses and grades into CSU and UC applications. Counselors and educators can use reports to identify students who may need support with coursework, financial aid, or applications.

Which LEAs Must Partner With CCGI?

LEAs serving students in grades 9–12 must partner with CCGI.

The statutory milestones included:

  • A data-sharing agreement with CCGI by January 1, 2026
  • An initial data file and onboarding work by June 30, 2026
  • Ongoing district data files that keep student accounts current

LEAs serving only grades 6–8 can offer Basic Accounts. They do not need to become Partner LEAs because they do not submit high school transcript data directly to CCGI.

Review A–G Course Alignment

CCGI requirements also include A–G course alignment work.

LEAs should compare locally approved A–G courses with the courses listed in the UC Course Management Portal. The statewide rollout guidance set a goal of at least 90% alignment.

This work matters because students depend on accurate course information when they review CSU and UC eligibility. A course that does not align correctly can create confusion for students, counselors, and families.

What LEAs Should Check Now

Since the original 2026 deadlines have passed, LEAs should confirm that they have completed the required work and established a sustainable process.

Start by confirming that your LEA has:

  • An active CCGI data-sharing agreement
  • A successful initial data submission
  • A process for sending updated files regularly
  • Accurate student, course, grade, and A–G information
  • A plan to review CCGI data issues with SIS, counseling, and curriculum staff
  • Required family notifications about CCGI data sharing and available tools

Next, review your SIS vendor’s ability to support CCGI data requirements. The CCGI SIS Vendor and Product Capabilities Matrix can help LEAs understand available vendor functionality.

Make Student Data Useful

CCGI works best when transcript data is accurate, current, and easy for students to understand. Therefore, this work is not only a compliance task. It is also a way to give students clearer information about their options after high school.
